The Marina and the village: two Villeneuve-Loubets

Villeneuve-Loubet stretches from the sea to the hills: down below, the Marina Baie des Anges and the beaches, along the coast road; up above, the old village crowned by its castle, overlooking the Loup valley.

AreaWhat you’ll findPickup
Marina Baie des AngesThe marina, the pyramid-shaped residences, the harbour shopsIn front of the entrance of the residence you name

The villageThe castle, the lanes, the Musée EscoffierAt the foot of the village; the lanes on foot

For a VTC, the difference matters: the Marina is a complex of residences with several entrances, the village a string of sloping lanes. The name of the residence, or a meeting point at the foot of the village, means no searching around.

Marina Baie des Anges, a landmark of contemporary architecture

Marina Baie des Anges, designed by the architect André Minangoy and built from 1969 to 1993, holds the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” (remarkable contemporary architecture) label from the French Ministry of Culture.

Its stepped, wave-shaped buildings can be seen from all around the Baie des Anges, as far as the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Heavily criticised for their bulk when they were built, they have become one of the most recognisable silhouettes on the Côte d’Azur.

Many of the Marina’s apartments are second homes or holiday lets: the people staying there often arrive through Nice airport, with suitcases and children. It is the textbook case for an airport transfer at a price agreed in advance, with a name sign in the arrivals hall and a child seat on request.

The Musée Escoffier, in the chef’s birthplace

Auguste Escoffier, the chef who codified modern French cuisine, was born in Villeneuve-Loubet in 1846; his birthplace, in the village, now houses the Musée Escoffier de l’Art Culinaire.

It is a visit food lovers enjoy, and it goes well with lunch: the restaurants page explains how to plan a meal out without a car, and the museums page places the Musée Escoffier among those of the Riviera.

The village is explored on foot, from the square below the castle up to the museum. You are dropped at the foot of the village, and Thierry picks you up at the same spot.

Between Cagnes and Antibes: the road to the airport

Villeneuve-Loubet is 9.5 km from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport as the crow flies, on the coast road between Nice and Antibes, and next to the A8 motorway.

The town does not have a fixed fare with Driver, Let’s Go!: the price of a transfer to or from the airport is given when you book, depending on the address, and it does not change afterwards. Antibes, just beyond on the same road, is €85 per trip.

In summer, the coast road gets busy at beach times, and so does the Marina junction. For a departure to the airport, Thierry suggests a pickup time that takes the day into account.

  • To Nice airport: price given before the ride.
  • To Antibes or Juan-les-Pins: a few kilometres further west.
  • To Cagnes-sur-Mer and Vence: to the east, then up into the hinterland.

The Parc de Vaugrenier and the beaches

The Parc départemental de Vaugrenier, between Villeneuve-Loubet and Antibes, is a large wooded park with a pond; on the sea side, pebble beaches line the coast road.

For a family staying at the Marina, these are the outings close to home; for a day further afield — Èze and Monaco to the east, Saint-Paul-de-Vence and Vence to the north — hourly hire starts from the residence and brings you back to it.

For owners and holiday lets

In Villeneuve-Loubet, and especially at the Marina, a large share of the homes are second homes or seasonal lets: arrivals and departures are concentrated on a few days, often Saturdays in summer.

On arrival day, you often need to collect the keys from an agency or a caretaker, pick up some shopping, then settle in. Mention it when you book: a stop on the way can be planned, and Thierry tells you before the ride what it changes to the price.

For owners who come back every season, a transfer booked well in advance secures the date and time as soon as the tickets are bought. Paying by bank transfer means you can settle before arriving, or let family or guests travel without having to pay on board.

  • A stop to collect the keys: mention it when you book.
  • Suitcases and stroller: 3 large suitcases and 2 small bags, front trunk included.
  • Guests or family: a sign with the traveller’s name, payment possible by bank transfer.
