What exactly is chauffeur hire by the hour?
Hiring a chauffeur by the hour means booking a driver and his car for a length of time rather than for a single trip: during that time, Thierry drives you wherever you like, waits for you, and sets off again when you are ready.
A transfer goes from one point to another. Hourly hire follows a day: lunch in Èze, an hour of shopping in Monaco, a beach in Juan-les-Pins, back to the hotel. You do not book four rides, you book Thierry for four hours.
It is what luxury hotels call a “chauffeur at your disposal”, and what Thierry did for twenty years in Monaco, on the hotel side. At Driver, Let’s Go!, it comes with published prices, which is still rare on the French Riviera.
How much is a chauffeur by the hour in Nice?
Thierry charges €85 an hour for chauffeur hire, with a three-hour minimum, €320 for a four-hour half day and €600 for an eight-hour day, tolls and parking included.
| Option | Price | Kilometres included | At the hourly rate, it would be |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 hours (minimum) | €255 | 75 km | 3 × €85 = €255 |
| Half day · 4 h | €320 | 100 km | 4 × €85 = €340 |
| 5 hours | €425 | 125 km | 5 × €85 |
| Full day · 8 h | €600 | 200 km | 8 × €85 = €680 |
Worked out from Thierry’s prices: €85/hour and 25 km included per hour; €1.50 per kilometre beyond that. Tolls and parking included in every case.
The half day works out at €80 an hour and the full day at €75. If your plans run beyond three hours, the fixed option costs less than the hourly rate — and booked ahead, it comes with a discount.
10 % off when you book more than 30 days ahead
A half day or a full day booked more than thirty days before the date gets 10 % off, and can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before.
| Option | Price | Booked more than 30 days ahead | Free cancellation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half day · 4 h | €320 | €288 | Up to 48 h before |
| Full day · 8 h | €600 | €540 | Up to 48 h before |
The discount applies to half days and full days; it does not apply to the hourly rate.
For a wedding, a birthday, a family visit or a stay already planned, booking a month ahead locks in the date, the price and the chauffeur. If your plans change, cancellation stays free up to two days before.
Three typical days with a chauffeur at your disposal
Hiring a chauffeur by the hour makes sense as soon as a day has several stops that are far apart, poorly served by public transport or hard to park at — in other words, most days on the Riviera.
The eastern Riviera, in a half day
Villefranche-sur-Mer, the village of Èze, Monaco. Three stops, scarce and expensive parking, corniche roads: 4 hours and €320. The details of each place are on the sightseeing page.
The villages and museums of the west, in a day
Cagnes-sur-Mer, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Vence, Antibes: the Renoir, Maeght and Picasso museums and the Chapelle du Rosaire on the same day, 8 hours and €600. See the museums page.
A day of appointments
A flat viewing, a notary, lunch, a second viewing: for second-home owners, a day by the hour saves renting a car and hunting for somewhere to park it.
A wedding or an event
Guests between the hotel, the ceremony and the reception. Booked more than 30 days ahead, the full day costs €540.

The kilometres included, and what they cover
Every option includes kilometres — 25 per hour, 100 for the half day, 200 for the full day — and each kilometre beyond that costs €1.50.
On the French Riviera, distances are short and roads are slow: an eight-hour day between Nice, Èze, Monaco and Menton generally stays under the 200 kilometres included. The mileage really only matters for long escapes, towards Saint-Tropez or into the hinterland.
If your plans go beyond the kilometres included, Thierry tells you when preparing the day, with the estimated extra, so the bill is never a surprise.
- 3 hours: 75 km included.
- Half day of 4 hours: 100 km included.
- Full day of 8 hours: 200 km included.
- Beyond that: €1.50 per kilometre. Tolls and parking always included.
A day on board a Tesla Model Y
During hourly hire, the car becomes your base: you leave your bags, shopping and jackets in it, and you find water, Wi-Fi and a way to charge your phones.
Thierry’s white 2023 Tesla Model Y is 100 % electric: no engine running while he waits for you, no diesel smell idling outside a café terrace. It takes 4 passengers, 3 large suitcases and 2 small ones.
For a family, a child seat or booster is fitted on request, and Thierry fits the plan around the children’s pace: a beach break, an ice-cream shop, a park. Ideas for outings with children are what he is asked about most.
- Wi-Fi on board
- Bottled water
- Phone chargers
- Child seat or booster on request
- English and Italian spoken

How to plan the day with Thierry
Hourly hire is planned in a single conversation: you say what you want to see, and Thierry suggests the order, the length and the option.
You describe the day
The places, what you feel like doing, the constraints: a lunch booking, a child’s nap, an evening flight.
Thierry suggests an order
Which way to take the corniches, when a village is less crowded, the real time between two stops.
You choose the option
By the hour, half day or full day, and the kilometres the plan needs.
On the day
Pickup at your hotel, villa or the airport; the plan can change along the way.
Payment
Bank card, cash or bank transfer, for the agreed amount; any extra mileage at the rate quoted.

What time to start, and until when
Thierry drives from 7 am to 7 pm: an eight-hour day usually starts in the morning and ends before dinner; after 7 pm, the ride is on quote.
For an evening — dinner in Monaco, a show, a late return — ask for a quote and give the finishing time. For lunch followed by an afternoon of visits, a half day from 11 am to 3 pm or from 2 pm to 6 pm fits within the hours.
If the day starts with a flight, the hire can begin at the airport: Thierry meets you as he would for a transfer, and then the day carries on.
Chauffeur hire by the hour: your questions
What people ask Thierry before booking a half day or a full day.
What is the minimum length of hire?
Three hours, at €85 an hour, which is €255 with 75 kilometres included. For anything shorter, a fixed-fare transfer is a better fit.
Does the chauffeur wait while I visit?
Yes, that is the whole idea: Thierry drops you off, waits for you and sets off again when you are ready. Parking is included in the price.
Are tolls included?
Yes, tolls and parking are included in every hourly hire option.
Can we go to Italy or Saint-Tropez?
Yes. An 8-hour day includes 200 kilometres; beyond that, each kilometre costs €1.50. Thierry speaks Italian, which helps on the other side of the border.
How does the 10 % discount work?
It applies to half days and full days booked more than 30 days ahead: €288 instead of €320, €540 instead of €600. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before.
Can we change the plan during the day?
Yes, as long as the time and kilometres allow. If the day runs longer, Thierry tells you what that changes before carrying on.
